Our Vision
A world where prisons are no longer necessary
What We Stand For
Fair Chance Project represents a movement led by liberated lifers (formerly incarcerated men and women), prisoners and loved ones of term to life prisoners organized around the demand for just sentencing laws and fair parole practices. Additionally, the group integrates formerly incarcerated men and women back into society enabling them to “give back and to help build strong, self-sustaining communities“.
Fair Chance Project (FCP) was formed in mid 2009 by newly released lifers who came out thru the courts and were committed to the men and women they left behind as the road was, by all accounts, long and difficult one.
Mission Statement
Our Mission is two-fold. Fair Chance Project represents a movement led by liberated lifers (formerly incarcerated men and women), prisoners and loved ones of term to life prisoners organized around the demand for just sentencing laws and fair parole practices. Additionally, the group integrates formerly incarcerated men and women back into society enabling them to “give back and to help build strong, self-sustaining communities”
Goals
- That prisoners be released by the power of the BPH upon fulfilling all reasonable criteria for eligibility
- That the Governors power over parole suitability be reserved for the most egregious cases.
- That former prisoners become a positive force in the lives of their communities, with emphasis on the lives of the youth.
Resource Gatherings and Sharing
Men, women and youth coming home from lock up are offered assistance with basic necessities such as food and clothing, housing and job referrals and a way to get the paperwork necessary to take next steps. They are brought into the larger Fair Chance Project family where they meet others who share similar needs.
Advocacy Work
- Educate and support those in prison and their families on how to navigate the system.
- Engage the state legislature and the Governor around demands for fair sentencing laws and parole policies
- End the “Life Without the Possibility of Parole” and END the “Death Penalty”
